Cold rolling increases the strength and hardness of the steel and decreases its ductility (that is, its ability to deform plastically sustainably without breaking), and for this reason it is necessary to master it in a development called annealing. Cold-rolled low-carbon steel in sheets is a type of rolled metal that has proven itself in construction, mechanical engineering, industry, the production of cold-formed car parts, furniture, etc. Cold-rolled low-carbon steel is made by processing cold metal under high pressure: it is clamped and pumped between the shafts of machine tools. The material is produced in sheets and rolls. Cold-rolled steel sheets are characterized by increased strength, improved mechanical properties, evenness and smoothness of the surface. Due to the high quality characteristics of steel, its use allows maintaining the accuracy of the product parameters, the manufactured parts do not need additional processing.

Types of Cold Rolled Carbon Steel:

Cold rolled carbon steel comes in a variety of carbon content levels:

• Low-Carbon Steel—Also known as mild steel, contains less than .3% of carbon. It is highly formable, making it effective for applications that require a great amount of bending and forming.
• Medium-Carbon Steel—Contains anywhere from .3% to.6% carbon, which makes it stronger and more durable for applications such as automotive manufacturing.
• High-Carbon Steel—Consists of .61% to 1.5% carbon, which changes its physical properties significantly. With higher carbon content, the steel becomes stronger and harder than the lower carbon steels; however, this material exhibits less ductility.

Additionally, the cold rolling and annealing process that the steel undergoes produces different levels of hardness:

• Dead soft
• ¼ Hard
• Half Hard
• Full Hard
