Tungsten rods have excellent heat resistance, thermal electron emission, strength and hardness. Therefore, they are used in a variety of applications such as discharge electrodes, electron tube anchors, tungsten inert gas (TIG) rods and probes. In addition to regular tungsten products, we also offer high purity tungsten products (5-N pure; PT05).
Tungsten metal is relatively inert and resistant to oxygen, acids, and bases, but will react with molten oxidizing alkaline media. It has the highest melting point of all the metals, and when pure it can be worked with relative ease; however, the presence of impurities makes tungsten extremely brittle and therefore difficult to manufacture. Tungsten's high melting point makes it suitable for use as an electric filament (e.g., in electric light bulbs). It is also the basis for a range of alloys containing tungsten, copper and nickel, which are used for radiation shielding because they are 50 percent denser compared to lead.
