Titanium Niobium Alloy Bar Nb-Ti50

Niobium-Titanium Alloys are alloys consisting of niobium and titanium. Industrially produced niobium-titanium alloys generally have a titanium content of 20% to 60% by mass, with the most typical niobium-titanium alloys containing 66% titanium [about 50% by mass]. They are important alloys for superconducting materials with a superconducting transition temperature of 8 ~ 10 K. Adding other elements can further improve their superconducting properties. Titanium exists in solid solution in the alloy. The alloy ingot is made by sintering of mixed powders, and the electrodes consisting of niobium and titanium sheets are melted several times by vacuum consumable arc furnace or electron beam.


Niobium-titanium alloy superconductors are the "leading material" in the superconductivity industry. Together with Nb3Sn superconducting materials, it is the material of choice for practical superconducting magnet applications. It has a high upper critical magnetic field (about 11 T at 4.2 K and 14 T at 2 K), pulls well with copper, and has good machining plasticity, high strength, and good superconducting properties.
