Despite its low nickel content, 253 MA Nickel Alloy Steel Pipe exhibits excellent creep strength and high resistance to oxidation, sulfidation and erosion/wear at extremely high temperatures. This makes the alloy more economical than most heat-resistant alloys.

The high heat resistance of 253 MA is achieved through strict control of microalloy additions. While the advantage in creep rupture strength is attributed to the combination of nitrogen, carbon and cerium, its superior oxidation resistance is the result of the combination of cerium and silicon.
